This coffee comes from Muhathi, a small estate in Kenya’s Kiambu County, run by Peris Wambui Karugondo and her son Sam. Their 5-hectare farm sits in the nutrient-rich red volcanic soil of the Mt. Kenya foothills—ideal conditions for growing complex, expressive coffees.
Muhathi is part of a larger family farm divided into three plots, each managed independently by siblings Peris, Danson, and Geoffrey. The family has been processing their own coffee since the 1980s, using a wet mill built by their father, ensuring exceptional quality and traceability in every lot.
Grown at 1900–2100MASL, this lot features a mix of SL28, SL34, and the disease-resistant Batian variety. The cherries are hand-picked, dry fermented overnight, and washed with clean water from the Komothai River before being carefully dried on raised beds.
Since Kenya’s 2023 coffee reforms, Peris has been able to sell her coffee directly—allowing for better returns and more transparent relationships with buyers like us. We’re proud to offer this vibrant, juicy lot that reflects the care, tradition, and innovation behind every cup.
